Welcome to Pauanui Waterways
This year is an exceptional one for Pauanui Waterways as it reaches a milestone celebrating 20 years. The 325+ lot development is an extension to the 2300 lot development of Pauanui. With vision for unique design features, Hopper Developments introduced coastal tidal influence into private property, and in 1993 Pauanui Waterways became the first canal development in New Zealand. Features of the Waterways include; private jetty’s adjoining waterfront properties, excellent quality water environment safe for swimming and shellfish gathering, private boat ramps and man-made beaches. The Waterways is a popular holiday resort and retirement destination, offering the best in waterfront living.
Pauanui is an incredible destination because it offers such an enormous array of outdoor recreational activities. It has one of the Coromandel’s best known surf beaches, as well as hiking, tennis, 3 golf courses to choose from, is perfect for a wide range of water activities, and is a base to the magnificent cruising, diving and fishing found immediately outside the entrance to the Tairua-Pauanui Harbour where lies Shoe Island, Slipper Island, Boat Harbour and the Alderman Islands.
The Pauanui town centre is also well equipped with café’s, restaurants, hair & beauty salon, liquor store, grocery store, boutique retail, marine centre and services, bakery, takeaway and ice cream shop, gas station, library, doctors and much more. Membership to the Pauanui Club also offers additional sporting and social opportunities.
Leigh Hopper, Managing Director of Hopper Developments believes Pauanui Waterways is the “piece de resistance” of the greater Pauanui resort. “The initial design elements have proved to be robust and enduring. Our earliest vision of creating a special place with exceptional amenity, offering the best in waterfront living has been delivered beyond doubt.” This has added significantly to the company mission of developing special places of exceptional value. “It is very fulfilling to see the large number of families enjoying their properties and surrounding environment. So often we are gratified by comments from property owners expressing their appreciation of the lifestyle benefits. Every year I continue to be amazed at the scope of new water toys and activities enjoyed within, and immediately beyond the waterways.”
Like many others, Graeme and Shirley Sparks first bought a holiday home in Pauanui in 1998, then moved onto a canal dry block in 1995 and in 2002 purchased a canal front section and built themselves a family home. They commuted most weekends from Rotorua but recently retired and are now living permanently in their canal home. Graeme regularly puts his 8.5m white pointer in the water and heads off to the Great Barrier or to the Alderman’s where he dives and enjoys a bit of fishing. Their 2 grandchildren, 7 and 9 years old, are in Pauanui often and love swimming, kayaking and fishing in the canals. The Sparks family enjoy socialising with their friends on the their canal side deck where it is not short of interesting entertainment, fish jumping, boats going by or Graeme coming home with a boat full of fish.
The subdivision has grown and flourished from early beginnings. In recognition of this special place purchasers have embraced quality with a wide range of architectural housing and added attractive landscaping. A parcel of land locally known as “The Hammerhead” has been reserved to establish a more intensive mixed use activity development, possibly including apartments, tourist accommodation, boutique retail and restaurant facilities.
With only 34 sections left for sale in the third and final stage, property values are expected to firm. Pauanui has and will continue to be a popular holiday destination for families. If you are looking to share the waterways experience by purchasing a canal front property, now is a great time, waterfront property has never been more affordable. Pauanui Waterways have ready to occupy homes available for the summer or can help with the selection of a section, or a design and build program. Show homes are open to view in the weekends, or by appointment. Our helpful staff would gladly introduce you to the waterways experience.
